Finally many woodworking specialists have taken to blogging as a way of communicating with other woodworking enthusiasts. There are so many categories of beginner woodworking projects that it can feel a bit overwhelming trying to make the right choice. This is probably worse than ever since you can find so many ideas on the internet!

The best thing you can do, and this worked for me, is create your own categories for your beginner woodworking projects. These will be your areas of interest and areas that you feel you can take advantage of right away. Think fun for your, functional for those around you.

So let's look at an example. Janet is 42 years old, single, and has 2 kids, one 6 the other 13. The backyard needs work and the garage is in desperate needs of organizational items. The TV sits on a cardboard box and there really isn't a computer desk. She also feels like she has nowhere to relax.

She also has a keen interest in learning how to woodwork. The best thing for her to do is start projects on the areas she has needs for. That way she can immediately enjoy the fruits of her labor. So her category list would look something like:

Outside Projects - a shed, deck, and fence
Kids Projects - toy box for 6 year old, desk for 13 year old
Garage Projects - build tool bench, shelves for organizing
Inside Projects - TV stand, computer desk
Self Projects - build comfy outside chair to relax in

Now what this does is gives Janet a chance to prioritize and select the appropriate woodworking project plans so that she can get started on the job she wants done first.

You can adapt this system to your own needs and finally break free from the brain clutter that is holding you back from advancing your woodworking projects skills.

What You Need To Do Now

Click Here Now to discover how easy it is to build anything when you have over 14,000 high quality blueprints to do download, print out and follow. I've found the most comprehensive list of woodworking project plans available.

Even coffee table plans are easy as 1-2-3 for me now!

Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Bill_L_Rowe

Shawn L. Many homeowners are attempting to learn the skill of woodworking through woodworking designs, ideas and plans. Not only can working with wood be a great way to make things for your house and property but can also be a stress reliever and give you a sense of pride when you look at your finished project.

There are many things to consider before deciding that woodworking design is right for you. First of all, a great wood plan may look simple on paper but speed and impatience will leave you with a multitude of mistakes and frustration. If you are looking for design woodwork that will deliver fast expert results, woodworking probably is not for you. You are learning a specialized field and need to enjoy the art of wood crafting in order to succeed.

Secondly, working from woodworking plans is vital in undertaking any wood design or project. Wood craftsmen are very meticulous when it comes to detail woodworking design and making sure that each step is followed intimately. There are generalized plans for free on the Internet that can give you a feel for how large your project is going to be. However, these plans may also leave out many important details, especially if not written and built by a qualified craftsman who has experienced any problems.

Do your homework on companies and individuals offering woodworking plans. Look at some of their designs and ask to see a list of customers who have used and commented on their plans. When first beginning with woodworking designs, you need to have a certain amount of trust in what design woodwork instructors are showing and telling you.

Make sure your source in wood project plans is one that is reputable. Good plans of woodworking designs will also offer woodworking tips that can be very beneficial in your learning process. Measuring procedures, types of wood and the best tools to use might be pointers that the pros will share through their woodworking plans. They want you to be successful so you can realize the same comfort and fun that they have from working with wood.

Lastly, begin with a woodworking design that is straight and simple, the fancy stuff can come later. Get used to the feel of the wood, the mistakes that you will make and familiarize yourself with the subject as a whole. Woodworking can be a great hobby or even a money making opportunity if learned by the right professionals who have developed detailed, easy to understand wood project plans.

If you have decided to make woodworking as a hobby, why don't you download more than 10000 home woodworking DIY plans here? All these plans are of high quality and specifically for home furniture building and shed building. Download woodworking designs from the expert woodworkers here!

Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Liam_Carter

Shawn L. DIY woodworking plans can greatly assist you in getting that perspective easily and affordably. Although you would think that getting a "recommended" book on woodworking is the best way to go, there are many other avenues by which you can get some great information on woodworking, plans, blueprints and schematics.

The best place to get this kind of information is the internet. Because of the reach and the affordability that the internet offers, many experts from multiple disciplines have now chosen it over conventional communication media such as print. The information is usually of very high quality. This applies to woodworking as well; experts in the field of woodworking who have decade's worth of experience in the field now openly profess their art and help others with their own woodworking dream and ambitions.

Online woodworking DIY project plans and blueprints have many advantages which will greatly help you without burning a hole in your pocket. First of all you get as many as ten to fifteen thousand plans to help you with your DIY woodworking projects; surely you will agree that no book can match this kind of raw information! Another advantage is that you simply have to download the plans, no need to go from store to store in search of them every time you want to find an instruction set for every new project that you want to begin. Any serious woodworker will appreciate the importance of having a good set of plans by his side at all times. Besides you can also write the author of the plan an email anytime you have a doubt, most woodworking experts are happy to help out people should they run into any issues.

Lastly be sure to take woodworking slow and easy. There is definitely a learning curve which comes with woodworking, however with the aid of some great quality plans you can easily bypass this learning curve so that you can accomplish your woodworking dreams. Woodworking is a fun and engaging hobby however remember that you will be working with some very sharp and some very dangerous equipment so you really need to be careful. There are many different hobbies that let you use your hands, but nothing seems to give you a greater feeling than working with wood. Many people who love this hobby has also found out that you can turn this hobby into a profitable home based business. There are many different ways that you can do this and let's go over some of the more popular ones.

Woodworking of course is working with wood but you still will need some tools to start with. Many basic hand working tools and electric tools can be bought at your local hardware or department store at a fair price. Once we have our tools than getting our hobby into the business form will take shape pretty quickly. Everywhere in the world people have birthdays, anniversaries, births, and many other events. Woodworking will let you create yard signs that will announce these events. These can come in various shapes and designs and colors. These are usually cut out with a saw and painted and set out in people's yard announcing the event. Over the years people have taken this hobby and turned it into a very profitable business. It's basically a recession free business so you should have no worries about any slow times.

Most hobbies that started out of woodworking eventually branch into a business and one that has is well-crafted signs for your home. These small wooden plaques that can be design with basic hand tools can include the owners name and address. The main reason these have become popular is you can customize these for the homeowner. Add in some color and designs and you will have an endless supply of customers. The other main reason that people need names and numbers on their homes is for emergency purposes. Using woodworking is probably the quickest and the best way to personalize it.

The Internet has really changed the way woodworking is done for many different reasons. Their use to be a time where you had to come up with your own idea's as there really wasn't any sources for wood workers besides small little craft fairs. With the Internet you can now visit forums, download patterns and talk to fellow woodworking professionals and bounce ideas off them. This makes starting a woodworking business so much easier. Crafting new products is the key to growing any business and sustaining it. Many crafters' have taken their hobby online and have seen some great successes. This will probably continue as more wood workers decide to plunge into the Internet even more.

Woodworking can encompass many things and taking your hobby to a full-blown business is just one option that it can give you. Many people don't take that route and that is okay to. If your choice is just to use woodworking as a hobby you will also find a lot of company in that sector too. It's all up to you.

Jeffrey Meier at Jam727 Enterprises at http://www.thearticlehome.com blog offers even more detailed information on a wide variety of topics.

Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Jeffrey_Meier

Shawn L. If you are a bit of a handy person then it really is the low cost business start up.

Central to your success would be a good set of woodworking plans. You can find them online and a set of plans can include hundreds of different projects for you to tackle.

With the minimum amount of tools you can start off very small and work your way up to bigger projects as funds and confidence increase. Typically you could begin by making and supplying something as small as bird nesting boxes, bird tables etc and then move on up to dog kennels, rabbit hutches and so on.

Your local pet shops, garden centres and hardware stores would be your ideal start up customers. Initially you would only need to make one item, say a bird nest box, go and visit your local retailers and take orders from the one sample. With the approach of summer garden furniture is always a popular seller and not at all difficult to make.

Having established yourself and made a bit of cash you can move on to bigger items. Wood sheds, garden sheds and the like are good sellers and relatively easy to produce. You can make the various sections at your chosen place of work and assemble them on site. Again you will probably find the designs for these goods included in your original set of woodworking plans.

To summarise it is possible to start your own woodworking business for less than $100 with nothing more than a set of woodworking plans, some second-hand tools and a little bit of get up and go!

For more Woodworking Business Ideas, Projects and Plans follow this link: http://www.mywoodworking.info.

Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Anthony_Woods

Shawn L. From the outside looking in, it seems an enjoyable livelihood and it certainly can be. It's a worthwhile goal for anyone who really loves woodworking. After all, what could be better than making your living doing something you really love.

After spending more than twenty years making my living with woodworking, I would never discourage anyone from trying it but I would definitely caution them to have a true picture before jumping in. If you really know what is involved you will either change your mind or be prepared for any difficulties.

Making A Living - First, realize that what you will probably be doing, if things work well, is making a living. If your taste run to living in luxury, it's unlikely to happen with the output of one woodworker. There are very few woodworkers who are getting wealthy from this work. These are the few who have become famous and make much more from their books, magazine articles, product endorsements and TV appearances than from woodworking. A few of these sell their woodwork projects for enormous sums because of their fame. Unless you become famous, you will have to sell and produce a lot of woodwork to make a good living.

Your Own Space - If you are fortunate enough to work from your garage or a shop space that you own, your costs will be much lower. If you must rent a space, as I did, then your monthly expenses will include additional rent, electricity, phone, garbage pickup, security, etc. It all adds up and means that you must produce a minimum amount of work each month just to pay those bills and of course, your personal bills.

Constant Marketing - The romance of woodworking must be balanced with the constant marketing necessary to keep the work coming in. In time, word of mouth brings in lots of work if you develop a good reputation. Until then, you must get the word out consistently. Once the work comes in you must have good production methods so you can complete the projects promptly and keep the money flowing. If projects take too long and the money flow stops, it can become difficult to pay the bills. Speaking of money flow, you must develop and adhere to consistent collection methods. This is one area where many woodworkers fail. The payment for the work must be as important as the work itself. If you are lax in collecting, you will run into customers who fail to pay you and this will cause serious cash flow problems.

The Business - Even though you love woodworking, you must do the business if you are to make a living at it. Success requires an in-depth knowledge of both woodworking and business management. If you don't have both, I suggest you hesitate to jump in until you have honed your business skills.

Looking back I realize that my lack of knowledge during my startup many years ago could have been offset with some basic information and someone to advise me.Unfortunately I had to learn most things by trial and error.

Bill Benitez owned and operated his successful woodworking business for over twenty years. He has written several books for woodworkers. Chances are that if you're just starting out with woodworking, then there are a whole lot of projects that you'd like to begin.

It's always a good idea to be honest with yourself and to determine your skill level first. A beginner is not going to be able to make nearly the amount of projects or take on quite the advanced tasks as those who have had decades of experience with woodwork projects. So if you're having trouble coming up with ideas, here are some things to think about:

1 - Consider Your Household.

The first thing you should take into consideration is your own household. No matter who you live with, there is almost certainly something missing in your household, or maybe something that could be replaced. Maybe you could do with some new furniture? How about a rocking chair or a new coffee table. In the end, you can build almost anything from wood.

2 - Give Gifts You Made Yourself.

Why not give your self-made woodwork projects to other people. Do you have a friend or family member that would benefit from a nice set of carved coasters or a brand new computer desk?

Think about the person you want to give the gift to. What are they like? What do they like? What's their taste like? What would they appreciate. There are so many possibilities to use wood for your perfect present: Picture frames, entertainment centers or CD/DVD holders, carved and engraved mirrors or jewellery boxes. Your imagination is the limit.

3 - Woodwork Courses.

Another way to generate ideas for projects is to invest in a woodwork course. As a hobby it should be fun. No matter what you choose for your projects, woodworking should be something you enjoy and not something you see as work.

There are many things that you can do to help you make sure that you keep woodworking a fun hobby.

Choose Woodworking Projects Wisely

When you are first starting out it can be easy to discouraged by the lack of projects at the beginner level. Do not let yourself get down about the projects. Instead do some searching. Find a project that is at your level, but also that interests you. In the beginning you may have to take on projects that seem a bit boring, but these projects are teaching you skills that you need to do the more advanced projects.

Look at your beginner projects as lesson in woodworking. You should walk away from these projects having learned something new. If you haven't learned anything then it may be time to move up to a higher level of difficulty.

Once you have gotten through beginner's projects, projects woodworking can become more about your passion. Start choosing projects that you are excited about. Choose projects that will give you a completed item that you will be proud of and that you can use. This will help to keep your passion about the hobby alive.

Work When you Have Time

Do not push yourself to finish projects. Woodworking is something that can be done a little at a time. Maybe one day you only have twenty minutes. Let yourself relax for those twenty minutes by doing a bit on your project. Then come back and work on it more some other day.

When you start feeling like you have to do woodworking it starts feeling more like a chore or obligation than a fun hobby. Avoid making yourself work. If you don't feel like working on your woodworking project then don't. There is always another day.

Watch Out for Financial Strain

Woodworking can become expensive. However, in order to make it easier on your finances, be aware of the costs. Do projects that let you use equipment you already have. Make use of scrap wood. Do what you can with what you have and buy new equipment and supplies when you have the money.

Consider buying second hand or even borrowing things you need. There is no need to make your hobby turn into an expense that you cannot afford.

Don't Stress Over Your Woodworking Projects

Remember that all of this is a hobby. You should always be having fun with your projects. Woodworking is supposed to be a stress reliever, not the cause of stress. You should feel relaxed when you are doing a project. If you are not then maybe you need a break. Never let your hobby turn into something that you dread doing. In the end, your projects, woodworking hobby and the whole experience should be something that you love.

It's crucial to begin with a quality woodworking plan when you're starting out on your woodworking projects. Therein lies the problem, and this is what you need to work out. So what do you do? Luckily there are many people out there who have been in your shoes, and they have shared their knowledge with those who are just starting out. So let's talk about a few of the things that you will need to know in order to have an enjoyable woodworking experience.

Finish First

You cut and assemble all of your parts separately, but at some point you will need to apply stain to the wood. This needs to be done BEFORE you actually put your project together. Because if you put the pieces together first and then stain, you'll find out quickly that you have created spaces that are hard or possibly not at all to stain. This is a bad situation which could result in a scrapped project. Worse yet, you might end up applying excessive stain to the project. However, if this does happen, dab it up with a wash cloth.

Clamping

One of the best woodworking tips anyone could ever give you is how important clamps are. Unfortunately there can also be problems with clamps. One of the issues that you will run into is of course staining. This happens when the wood comes in contact with the clamps, and there is another problem as well. It could happen that you clamp the pieces too tight, which could possibly leave indentations in the wood, which doesn't look very appealing. But there is a solution to this, so don't be concerned.

The best way that you can fix this is to add a layer of tape to the clamp. You can do this to the teeth as well, but in that case it will need to be something a bit thicker, such as a piece of foam. It is important however to make sure that you do not compromise the integrity of the clamp in your efforts to make it function more efficiently.

A Bit of Extra Help

Also, sometimes you'll find that you need to set two pieces of wood up on end, but you cannot seem to make them stay that way. So what you can do is to make your own little 'clamps', which are really more like placeholders. Essentially you are making a tongue and groove joint, where the stand you make is the tongue, and the board is the groove. Use any left-over wood you have to build the clamps, which I know will be of great help to you.

As you can imagine, there are many more woodworking tips out there. Naturally you will find your own way in this great hobby, but keep those tips in mind, as they come from experience.

For more ideas, woodworking tips and a great freebie from Jim Holz, who has been a woodworking hobbyist for more years than he cares to remember, check out http://www.WoodworkCourse.com

Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Jim_Holz

Shawn L. Another good source are online courses. They usually lay out all the materials needed as well as the steps required to complete the project.

So here are 3 great ideas that have helped me greatly with my woodworking:

1 - Use Assembly Blocks

One of the first things that virtually everyone can use, involves the assembly of wood pieces. Imagine you have started a rather ambitious project and are now at the stage where all the things have to be put together: How are you holding all those pieces in position at the same time. The way to work around this dilemma is to use assembly blocks.

They might take a little effort to make, but hold pieces very nicely in position. They appear as small square blocks made from medium density fiber wood or even plywood. Just make a few intersecting grooves into a block of wood and there you have your first assembly block. How easy it that.

Of course you could just go into a shop and buy assembly blocks, but why not make it a project to make your own? It's certainly cheaper and more rewarding. They really are a great help when putting pieces together.

2 - Find Alternatives And Save Money

Another really good woodworking tip is to try to find alternatives to tools or other materials that are not necessarily crucial to the construction of your woodworking project. For example, if you need to glue some items together then chances are that the materials list in your woodworking plan will call for a glue brush. Instead of using a glue brush, grab an old toothbrush to spread the glue with. It's a great money saver!

3 - Use A Layout Tool

If you're putting hardware into wood such as screws or need to mark where you need to saw or cut, use a layout tool. Layout tools can look similar to the assembly blocks I described earlier, however it's designed to hold a ruler (use a metal ruler), so it usually has a groove around the edges. This can make all the difference if you don't want to use a tape measure and want something a bit easier; all you need to do is place the ruler along the rabbet and mark the places on the wood where you need to cut or fasten hardware.

As you can see, these are just a few really useful woodworking tips you might not have heard of before. When you are first starting out as a beginner woodworker you may have a lot of questions about what to do and what not to do. Some beginners might take on too much too soon or spend a lot on expensive woodworking tools and machines that they may not need-so make sure you do your research. Even some basic techniques are very confusing or easy to do incorrectly when you are first starting out. So make sure you get the proper training to get started the right way.

Many fine woodworkers learned their skills by just jumping in and trying to build something. Don't be in a hurry though, even those brave souls that start from scratch with no preparation often end up seeking out some books, magazines, or experienced woodworkers to figure out how to do it right.

Here are a few tips to keep in mind when you are starting out:

• Start with familiarizing yourself with the basics. Learn about different forms of woodworking, types of trees and woods and how they are used, various tools, etc.

• When you're knowledgeable enough about the basics, plan what type of woodworking projects interest you. Once you have a plan you can move on to reading books or even taking classes that teach hands on skills in your choice of a woodworking project.

• Enroll or take a few classes near your area, possibly a beginner class through the local college or something taught by an experienced woodworker. The important thing is it will give you a clear overview of different tools and woodworking safety to get you started.

• If you are not a big fan of taking classes, but you know a person who is skilled enough in woodworking to train you then you can ask them a favor if they would let you assist them with a project, or perhaps show you how it is done. Most woodworkers are pleased to share and talk about their art. Chances are it will be their pleasure to oblige.

• However, if you are brand new to woodworking and haven't really used tools before, you can opt to consider starting with a precut kit. Usually, most kits consist of wood that is already cut in the appropriate shapes and sizes. It would be up to you to follow the instruction and assemble the pieces together. These kits only require nailing, screwing, gluing, sanding, and finishing. Some great beginner woodworking projects are benches, plant holders, birdhouses and feeders, and many other fun items to get you started.

Until you think you're ready to advance to more complex projects, don't worry about planning and sizing your own lumber. Until you are comfortable you can purchase lumber already prepared and cut in many different widths. Other turned pieces are also readily available pre-made, like table legs and chair spindles. Slowly ease into some of those more complex projects over time by adding greater levels of difficulty to each project.

For more beginner woodworking tips take a look at Eric Willey's other articles about woodworking. Finding the best wood working ideas for a beginner is a great place to start.

Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Eric_Willey

Shawn L.
